Re: [TRNSYS-users] Type 68 masks (was: Incohérence avec masques lointains sous TRNSYS16)

Elodie,

I am not sure I understand what your problem exactly is, because it does not seem that your project reproduces what you describe in the message. However, there are a few problems with your project and there are a few thing that need to be clarified about Type 68:

- The data files for Type 68 should always provide evenly spaced view angles from -180 to 180. E.g. if you want to use a 5 degrees step you have to provide obstruction heights for -180, -175, -170, ..., 170, 175. Type 68 uses a step-like approximation so the value provided for a given view angle is applied between that angle and the next provided point. The maximum number of angles you can provide is limited by the maximum line width (1000 character by default). If you do not provide evenly spaced view angles from -180 to (180-step), the diffuse shading will be slightly wrong and the beam shading will give unpredictable results (although they might be correct for simple examples).

- Type 68 will adjust the obstruction height to take into account the opening itself for view angles that are "behind the opening". E.g. for a vertical wall obstruction height is 90 when abs(SunAzimuth-SurfAzimuth) is >90. So you can safely provide "0" for the obstuction height behind a wall, Type 68 will use the right value both for beam and diffuse shading.

- The obstructions angles are provided for each view angle, for each surface. The view angles are ABSOLUTE ANGLES (i.e. 0 is always "facing equator", no matter what the orientation of the surface is). The orientation of the opening is only used for diffuse shading.
THE COMMENTS IN SOME TRNSYS 16 EXAMPLE FILES ERRONEOUSLY STATE THAT THOSE ANGLES ARE RELATIVE TO THE ORIENTATION. This will be fixed in the next update. I suspect this might be part of your problem as well.

I hope this helps,

Michaël Kummert

Bonjour,

Merci d'avance, Elodie
