Although many simulation programs, e.g. HASP/ACSS/Japan, DOE2/USA and many others, were developed and used for research, development and evaluation of HVAC systems, many of their structures are monolithic so that another style of simulation program having the flexibility and modularity such as TRNSYS and HVACSIM+ is becoming the current of HVAC/building simulation tool. One of such simulation programs is a new building energy simulation program called EnergyPlus that was released in April, 2001. A certain VAV HVAC system was simulated , with a model of actual existing building, as an end user of EnergyPlus, evaluate its usability and discuss calculation results on some options such as changing set point temperatures of rooms and the delivery air and control schedules how they influence the energy consumption and the indoor environment, and then examine its applicability to Japanese HVAC engineering culture.
