Re: Solar Shift in Typr 16

Christoph,
  The shift value can be either positive or negative - it depends whether the location of the data file is east or west of the standard local meridian for the timezone. If you are west it should be positive, if you are east it should be negative. For your example below, the value should be positive as Frankfurt is to the west of the standard longitude for the MEZ timezone. Also, make sure that the last Type16 parameter (simulation time is solar time) is not set to a negative value because in his case, whatever shift you enter will be ignored. If you are getting different cooling loads based on your shift, I am sure that you have it right - I only mention it because it is a common mistake.
Cheers,
  David

Hi Users,

after a few years of not working with TRNSYS I picked it up again a few months ago. From my earlier experience I remember that the value for Solar Shift has to be negative.

All the examples distributed with TRNSYS use negative values as well. But according to the documentation, it should be positive (or shouldn't it?):

Shift=Lst - Lloc
Example Frankfurt: Lloc=8.7°; Lst(MEZ)=15°; Shift=6.3°

In the latest TRNSYS release, a negativ Solar Shift gives a much higher irradiation and cooling load for rooms facing east than for those facing west. Also, it leads to a lot of angle errors. Replacing it by a positive value, removes all those problems. Cooling loads are as expected on the various orientations, and there aren't any angle errors.

I compared my results, created with postive Shift, with older versions. They do seem to require negative values to produce the same results. Very confusing, the whole thing.

What's right for which TRNSYS-Release: Positive or negative?

Thanks,

Christoph Meyer
